Plasma Detachment
We have conducted to substantiate the thrust mechanism, one of challenges is the plasma detachment in the thrust generation process. Each particle such as ion and electron rotates on magnetic field, it is called cyclotron motion. If ejected plasma continues the motion, the plasma may come back to the spaceship along the looped line of magnetic force. Several studies agree that ion deviates from magnetic field in a magnetic nozzle ,however, little research has been conducted to show plasma detachment including electrons.
Therefore, we need to understand a condition that both ion and electron detach from a magnetic field:plasma detachment. We calculate the plasma flow in the magnetic thrust chamber using a full particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation to treat ion and electron as particles.
